Billings, Montana
Billings is Montana's largest city. It lies below the rimrocks of the Yellowstone River Valley. Billings was established in 1882 with the coming of the Northern Pacific Railroad. Today it is a major shipping center for cattle and other agricultural products. Billings is the gateway to Little Bighorn Battlefield National Monument, Bighorn National Recreation Area, Yellowstone Park, the Yellowstone River and the Absaroka-Beartooth Wilderness.
Billings is rapidly growing; as of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 89,847 and a 2007 city estimate indicates the city's population has grown to 103,206. This growth provides opportunities for growth and development in every area of life; business, community and home. Billing real estate is at a premium. Being so close to Yellowstone National Park and the area where the Battle of the Little Bighorn was fought, the city draws an impressive number of tourists. Billings has experienced continued growth in the recent years, and has not followed the population decline of the eastern portion of the state and most of the Great Plains states. This growth can be attributed to the city's proximity to the mountainous regions of Wyoming and Montana that make it such a tourist hotspot.
