Missoula is nicknamed the Garden City for its mild winters relative to the rest of Montana. Missoula is a wonderful place to live. Depending on the season you’ll enjoy hiking, skiing, fishing, running rivers and riding mountain bikes. Missoula is located in an old, glacial lakebed, which is now cut by Clark Fork River. The Bitterroot River feeds into the Clark Fork on the Southwest edge of town; the Big Blackfoot River runs here. The river became well-known through the 1976 Norman Maclean novel “A River Runs Through It” and later in a Robert Redford movie based on this novel about the Big Blackfoot River.
In addition to the many outdoor activities this is also home to The University of Montana, which doubles the size of the city each fall; however, just as the university students leave each year, the tourists arrive. Missoula is 3 hours south of Glacier National Park and 3-and-a-half hours west of Yellowstone National Park making Missoula a great homebase for National Park Vacations. Nearby lakes and rivers also make this a highly anticipated destination for fishermen, and water sports enthusiasts. The surrounding national forests and a handful of wilderness areas bring out hundreds of hikers, campers and adventurers every year.
Northwest Montana offers snow fun in the winter and a variety of recreational activities in the summer. Whether you are purchasing vacation property or plan to settle down in Missoula the area offers location and a lifestyle that you will appreciate. Although National Parks Realty does not deal directly with properties in the missoula area, we would like to recommend you to our friends over at Montana Real Estate Properties www.montanarealestateproperties.com where you can find complete listings in the area.
