Whitefish Lake Golf Course

May 24 1936 was the grand opening tournament for the original beginnings of the north course of Whitefish Lake Golf Club when the yearly membership fee was 25 cents. The golf course idea dates back to the late 1920's. The original grant was gained with the agreement to incorporate dual use of the golf course as an emergency landing field. To this day, the Whitefish Lake Golf Course is still a designated emergency landing strip. Over the years the course has grown and improvements have been made. As of yet, there has not been one tax dollar spent for the course.

The north course was designed by Bill Trippett and updated by John Steidel in 1983, the North Course enjoys open views Whitefish Lake and Big Mountain. The 18th hole of the North Course has a blind approach so there is a bell near the green to ring in order to signal the next players that its time to tee off. This is the kind of personality that the historic north course has embodied from the beginning.

In 1994 the South Course addition was completed across Highway 93 which was also designed by John Steidel. It borders the tranquil Lost Coon Lake providing for magnificent views of the lake with Big Mountain in the distance. With the completion of the second 18-hole course, Whitefish Lake Golf Club became the only 36-hole golf course in Montana.
