Swan Lake

Located in the Swan Mountain Range, Swan Lake has one of the most pristine settings of all the lakes in Northwest Montana. The South end of Swan Lake is home to the Swan River Wildlife Refuge which is home to Sandhill cranes, bald eagles and a wide variety of other birds. There is a year-round pedestrian trail from Bigfork to Seeley Lake to the South and the Swan Lake Nordic Trail System which consists of 50 miles of mapped backcountry trails make it idea for skiiers of any level of experience. Swan Lake is around 45 minutes from Kalispell or if you head East you can be in the heart of Helena or Great Falls in just under 3 hours.

Swan Lake is narrow and approximatly 7 miles long making it great for those looking to get away from the crowds. For a lake this size there are relatively few properties that become available each year but when they do you'll want to be ready to jump on them quickly. Swan Lake is great for both boating and fishing and with the majority of the west shore is surrounded by Forest Service land this is one of those great Montana lakes that you'll always wish you had lived on.
